Sudeshna Beacon of Hope (SBOH) is a non-profit organization established in memory of my wife Sudeshna, who we lost to cancer in 2013 after an epic 39 month battle. Sudeshna was detected with ovarian cancer in 2010 and faced a grim prognosis. She had a “never-give-up” attitude in spite of doctors giving up multiple times. Her fight, determination and grace inspired all those around her.

During this time, hard facts came to the forefront. Traditional treatment options are limited. Alternate treatments are not covered by insurance. The financial burden on the family adds an emotional toll on the patient. It takes a huge effort to keep hope alive. We were fortunate to have a strong support system of friends which helped us remain positive and keep fighting the odds. We lost her in 2013, but we wanted to spread her positivity and provide help to those who may unfortunately not have a financial or social support system.

Since 2016, the annual Sudeshna Beacon of Hope Concert has spread Sudeshna’s inspiring message through music and dance in India, USA, and even online during the pandemic. Funds raised from these concerts have helped support children with cancer. Through 10 concerts in 10 years, SBOH has donated more than Rs 50 Lakhs to the underprivileged children fighting cancer at the Saroj Gupta Cancer Center & Research Institute (SGCCRI), a non-profit cancer hospital in Kolkata, India.

SBOH is committed to continue to support SGCCRI, as their vision and mission resonate with our purpose. Even with the subsidized rates of treatment at SGCCRI, cancer treatment is expensive.

A donation of Rs 10,000 can help support a child's stay at the hospital for a week, or one month of maintenance chemo. Rs 50,000 helps with an initial month of chemo. SGCCRI never turns back a patient based on their financial profile. And it is imperative that we all come together and support them to continue on their mission.

We at SBOH, plan to continue our activities supporting the children being treated for cancer in SGCCRI.

Thank you for your support.
