Draupadi- The Unsung Warrior

Aiming as always to present an ‘eclectic mix of percussion and melody’, the performance promises to be a visual treat that will transport audiences to the intricacies of Indian culture, poetry, and classical South Indian dance. Elegant narration in English will be integrated to enhance audience appreciation of the traditional theme presented. This production takes the audience on a journey through the travails of Draupadi, the heroine in the ancient epic Mahabharata from Hindu mythology.

Draupadi - The Unsung Warrior will employ the traditional conventions of South Indian Bharatanatyam dance and Carnatic music to explore the narrative, symbolic and metaphorical meanings of one of the central female characters appearing in the Mahabharata, an ancient Indian epic that tells the story of an internecine struggle for power between two branches of a royal family.

As a special bonus, we are excited to offer you the opportunity to purchase a combined ticket for our fall and winter productions.

Abhinaya dance company presents Shakti Unveiled on Sunday, December 8th, a solo production by Rasika Kumar that takes you on an intimate journey, revealing how, as Indian women navigating our lives, we endure a thousand subtle cuts that slowly diminish us, forcing us to shrink and occupy less space in the world.

Don't miss out on this fantastic chance to experience both performances at a special rate!
