Lifetime of MEDS or Lifestyle of M.E.D.S
Live Right to Live Well and Live Long! – We have been told to do so ever since we were born, but perhaps as many of us can attest to, it’s not always easy to execute.
Facts show that we as South Asian Americans are prone to the twin epidemics of Diabetes and Cardiac diseases. And no matter, which year we graduated from COEP, we all face the same risks.
To help us understand our predisposed health risks and explore the scientific evidence behind lifestyle as a therapeutic intervention, we have invited Ashish Mathur, co-founder and executive director of the South Asian Heart Center, to enlighten us about M.E.D.S – the foundation of the center’s lifestyle methodology. Under his leadership, the center has become a unique resource for community members and has been recognized by the 18th Surgeon General of USA, Dr. Vivek Murthy, US House of Representatives and many other govt. authorities. Most recently, the work of the Center has been cited and recommended by the American Heart Association’s scientific statement on evaluating and treating cardiovascular risk in South Asians. Ashish is also a successful entrepreneur and has led many innovative companies in the Bay Area.
In conversation with our very own ’87 alumnus, Aarti Johri, we look forward to exploring and discovering the secret sauce to sustainable behavior change that can have meaningful impact on our health and well being. Aarti brings a unique perspective as she has benefited directly from the program and can validate it’s impact.
