With the decision of Verizon to make Sacramento the first city to pilot its 5G technology, which includes a $100 million investment in infrastructure, and Volkswagen’s initial $44 million investment in electric vehicle technology, Sacramento is poised to be a leader in this conversation. Over the next decade, Sacramento will be able to demonstrate new technologies and avenues for creating smart cities. We will be a testing ground for autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, human computer interfaces, internet of things, drones, data analytics and cybersecurity.
