Jwala: 25 years of Sankalpa

Come watch the light of dance radiate from stage in this celebration - JWALA. Artistic Director Nirupama Vaidhyanathan formed Sankalpa 25 years ago with a simple mission of passing on her artistic legacy with integrity, passion and joy. Along with senior students, she is gearing up to present a challenging evening length repertoire to showcase work done over the past 25 years.

Trained under an impeccable lineage of gurus - Swamimalai S.K. Rajarathnam and Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan, Nirupama Vaidhyanathan upholds high standards of excellence in her school. In this celebratory program, each song will showcase the grace of the Vazhuvoor style that she imbibed from Swamimalai S.K. Rajarathnam and the soulful abhinaya storytelling skills she honed under Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan.

"The process of learning and teaching Bharatanatyam unfolds over several years. Through this long period of training, there is a focus and joy that builds within. I often refer to Bharatnatyam as yoga in motion - the form calls for such intense rigor that the mind cannot waver for a fraction of a second. And in that unwavering dedication to the form, there is a light that radiates within. The radiant joy of this art form that we love dearly is what we are waiting to showcase," says Nirupama Vaidhyanathan.
